“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued: when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship” – Brene Brown
Group experiences offered by KB Counseling are designed to bring people together who share similar experiences and struggles. As a member of one of our groups, you will see that you are not alone, you will be invited to give and receive support to other group members, and you will learn to relate to yourself and others in healthier ways. Empathy will be the guiding value of each group experience. The practice of empathy will be taught to group members at the beginning of each group experience to foster a space where each group member can be seen, heard, and valued, without judgment.

Risk Ordinary:
A Group for Perfectionistic Young Women
Who is this group for?
This group is for the 20-something-year-old woman who feels unable to keep up with checking all the boxes, who is struggling under the pressure she feels to be exceptionally good, who feels scared to be ordinary (common, normal, to-be-expected) in a culture that values exceptional goodness. You truly aren’t alone. If you’re curious about finding people who get you, contact me.

How will I benefit from this group?
This group will be a place to bond with other women over the mutual experience of perfectionism; believing your own worth is completely tied to your performance and accomplishments. Together, with the support of other group members, you will discover your flavor of perfectionism, learn about common mental health challenges tied to perfectionism, begin to tell your own story, contemplate change as you reflect on your life as a perfectionist, explore the ideas of acceptance and self-compassion, and take courageous risks to show up as your imperfect human self in relationships.

How do I know if I’m ready for this group?
An ideal group member is not expected to be perfect. It is likely that someone in this group will know what social anxiety, a depressive episode, intrusive worry thoughts, an eating disorder, or grief feels like. There are a myriad of life and mental health experiences that will be welcomed and carried into this group because we will all be human. That said, it will be important that group members are not experiencing a current mental health crisis that is moderately to severely interfering with one’s life. This is for the safety of that individual and the effectiveness of the group experience. Each group member will meet virtually with Kelsey before the group begins to discuss the question “Am I Ready for This?”.
How long will the group meet?
